Greetings from the County Administrator
Few localities offer the variety of experiences, the diverse cultures, the balanced economic base, and the topographical beauty of Rockingham County. Located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, our rolling rivers, mountain ridges, dense forests, and sprawling pastures provide ample opportunities for recreation and relaxation. People are drawn to the area by its energy, as well as our down home values.
The agrarian way of life is deeply rooted in the valley and has helped Rockingham County become one of the leading agricultural counties in Virginia and nationally ranked in total livestock and poultry production. The Harrisonburg metro area is home to four colleges and universities, fostering a climate ripe for innovative ideas and creative thinking. The County’s thriving technological, industrial, and commercial base help maintain a stable and vibrant economy where businesses can thrive.
The County’s greatest asset is its people. More than 82,000 people call Rockingham County home and our governing body, the
Board of Supervisors, is committed to providing quality services to its citizens as efficiently and effectively as possible. This philosophy is reflected in the County's relatively low tax rates, the major portion of which (about 80%) is allocated to quality K-12 education. We continue to build our future by providing educational and employment opportunities for our community as it faces the many challenges of the 21st century.
Whether you are visiting for business or pleasure, come see what the County has to offer!
